Butler Symphony honors Young Musicians of Note
The Butler County Symphony Association recognized 35 Butler County music students in grades seven through 12 as Young Musicians of Note.
Selected by their music teachers based on an interest in music, the students will be honored at the symphony orchestra's concert at 7:30 p.m. March 14 at Butler Intermediate High School.
Titled "Treasured Gems," the concert will feature classical pieces including "Capriccio Italien" by Tchaikovsky and "Toccata" and "Fugue" by Bach.
The symphony association is collaborating with the Maridon Museum for the concert, which will be dedicated to the late Mary Hulton Phillips, museum founder.
Pipa player Ming Ke will perform on the traditional Chinese instrument.
Also on the program is this year's Young Artist Competition winner in the college category, alto saxophonist Justin Polyblank, a senior music education major at Indiana (Pa.) University.
Seats are reserved. Tickets are being sold at the symphony office, 259 S. Main St., at $15 for adults and $8 for students. Tickets will be sold at the door for $18.
