Septemberfest at Alameda Park scheduled
The 21st annual Alameda Septemberfest at Alameda Park, hosted by the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department, is set for Sept. 30.
“This event is our biggest one,” said Lance Welliver, department director. “We average 3,000 people or so throughout the day.”
Rain or shine, the festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., beginning with a 5K run sponsored by the Butler Lions Club.
“We have a variety of activities. We have a large car cruise. We have a fishing tournament in the pool. The Butler Lions has a 5K. We have crafts and food vendors and live entertainment. We have a wood carver and kids activities,” Welliver said.
The pH level in the water in the Alameda Waterpark, which was closed for swimming in late August, will be adjusted to allow fish to live in the water for the tournament, he said.
Children up to 15 years old can participate in the tournament, which runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Anglers who catch any of the tagged fish will win prizes.
The festival and parking are free, but the tournament costs $9. People who preregistered through the department can enter through the water park gate at 10:45 a.m. Others must sign up at the festival registration tent.
Anglers must bring their own tackle, rods and reels, and bait.
A disc jockey and Murphy's Big Band are providing the entertainment.
Pre-registration for the car cruise has ended, but people who haven't registered can still bring their rides. Those who pre-registered will receive a T-shirt. About 100 cars are expected for the show.
For children, there will be a petting zoo, balloon artist, pony rides, face painting and bubble soccer. A fee will be charged for the jump castles and slides.
Most of the activities, including the craft show and wood carving exhibition, will be held in the Odd Fellow Loop behind the water park.
