Police accuse trio in burglary case

TV, game system stolen

Butler police quickly arrested a trio of young burglars Wednesday morning after they made off with a large television and a video game console from a home on Zeigler Avenue, authorities said.

Officers found the stolen property at the home of a neighbor of the alleged victim, according to court documents. The girlfriend of one of the suspects lives at that home.

When that same suspect was arrested, police said they found him with a loaded handgun previously reported stolen from the other side of Pennsylvania.

Charged with burglary and conspiracy, both felonies, and a misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property are Gage F. Carrozzi, 20, and Donald W. Reese, 18, both of Butler, and Shawn M. Wilson, 18, of Sharon, Mercer County.

Carrozzi also is charged with an additional count of receiving stolen properly and carrying a firearm without a concealed-carry permit, both felonies, and criminal mischief, a summary offense.

Carrozzi is in the Butler County Prison on $100,000 bail. Reese and Wilson are being held on $50,000 bail each.

Police suspect the defendants targeted Kenneth Fetter's home in the 300 block of Zeigler Avenue after speaking to him on his front porch about 2:40 a.m., documents said.

Fetter told investigators that he was familiar with Carrozzi but did not know his name. He remembered seeing that man armed with a handgun while they talked. He did not know the other suspects.

The alleged victim recounted that when he left his house a short time later, the three men were still nearby, standing on the street outside.

Fetter returned about 3 a.m. and discovered his 50-inch flat-screen TV and a Sony PlayStation 3 and related accessories were missing. He estimated the stolen property's worth at $1,141, police said.

Furnished with a description of the suspects, officers about 4:30 a.m. found the trio on Kaufman Drive, less than a block from Fetter's house.

Carrozzi claimed they were walking to the store after he had just had an argument with his girlfriend.

Police went to his girlfriend's apartment in the 400 block of Zeigler Avenue where they found Fetter's property, documents said.

Carrozzi's girlfriend told police that about 3 a.m. she woke up to find the defendants just leaving her home. About the same time, she first noticed the TV and game console.

After speaking to the woman and finding the stolen property, police arrested all three defendants.

Police said a search of Carrozzi turned up a .45-caliber pistol, which was identified in a national crime database as having been stolen from Susquehanna County.

Later, while in a holding cell at the police station, Carrozzi spit on the floor, causing a $100 cleanup bill, documents said.
