CRANBERRY TWP — Township residents will soon be able to grab a six-pack of beer or a bottle of wine at the Sheetz convenience store on Freedom Road.

The board of supervisors at their Thursday night meeting voted unanimously to grant the transfer of a liquor license to the Sheetz.

The Altoona-based convenience store chain won 15 liquor licenses of 40 expired licenses made available by the state at an auction last year.

Among those licenses were some formerly held in Butler and Buffalo townships. Sheetz officials paid $306,000 apiece for those licenses, according to Cranberry Township manager Jerry Andree.

The GetGo convenience store in the Cranberry Crossroads development also secured a restaurant liquor license last year, and is now selling beer and wine at that location.

Butler Township commissioners in December approved a liquor license transfer to the GetGo on North Main Street, although beer and wine have not yet been sold at that store.

Gov. Tom Wolf in June signed the Adult Beverage Convenience and Wine Privatization Act into law.
