A Butler County woman says she sustained numerous broken bones and other injuries in a June 2025 crash when a man who was driving drunk struck her vehicle head-on after drinking at a Summit Township bar, according to a recent lawsuit.

Dianne Black, along with her husband John, of Renfrew, filed a lawsuit Monday against Justin Ross, of Chicora, and Vin and Joe’s Inn, where they said Ross was drinking before the June 20 crash.

The three-count suit claiming negligence, business liability and loss of consortium was filed in Butler County Common Pleas Court and seeks unspecified damages and a jury trial.

Saxonburg police charged Ross with aggravated assault by vehicle, driving under the influence and two summary traffic violations following the crash. A status conference in the case is scheduled Sept. 30.

According to the suit, Ross was served and drank several alcoholic beverages over a period of hours while showing obvious visible signs of intoxication.

He left driving his 2024 black Nissan Rogue west on Chicora Road (Route 68), crossed the center line and struck Dianne Black’s vehicle head-on in the eastbound lane near 637 Chicora Road in Oakland Township, according to the complaint.

According to police, Ross struck a Chevrolet HHR with two women inside, and the driver was in distress and unable to exit the vehicle. Fire departments responded and used tools to extract the driver from the vehicle.

Ross showed signs of impairment and admitted to drinking alcohol but refused a blood draw, police said.

The crash caused significant disabling damage to Black’s vehicle, and left her with numerous injuries requiring multiple surgeries, extended inpatient hospitalization and rehabilitation, according to the suit.

She sustained two breaks in her left femur, four broken bones in her right foot, a dislocated joint in her right foot, a right foot Lisfranc injury, broken right wrist, two vertebrae fractures, four broken ribs and cuts and bruises.

Ross could not be reached for comment. No one from Vin and Joe’s returned a call seeking comment on the suit.
