Renfrew woman faces DUI, drug charges
State police arrested and charged a Renfrew woman Monday on drug and DUI charges after more than 2 1/2 ounces of marijuana allegedly were found in her car.
Joelle L. Thorhauer, 40, was charged with felony possession with intent to sell, misdemeanor possession with intent to sell and misdemeanor first-offense DUI.
After her arraignment, Thorhauer was released on a $30,000 unsecured bond.
According to charging documents, police conducted a Jan. 14 traffic stop on Thorhauer, who had been swerving her van out of her lane on North Main Street Extension in Center Township.
“While speaking with Thorhauer, I observed that she seemed to be very nervous and apologetic,” said the investigating officer. “Upon my second approach of the vehicle, she seemed to be even more nervous, dramatic and erratic.”
Police said while speaking with Thorhauer, the officer noticed two baggies of marijuana on the passenger-side floor. Police said upon mentioning these baggies to Thorhauer, they asked to search the vehicle, which she refused.
According to documents, after her refusal, she was asked to exit the vehicle for field sobriety tests, which indicated she was impaired.
Police said Thorhauer was taken to the Butler State Police Barracks F, where a breath test revealed Thorhauer's blood-alcohol content was over the legal limit, but the specifics were not listed in the affidavit.
According to a search warrant application, police also found a small baggie of cocaine wrapped in a $1 bill in the woman's back pocket.
The warrant was granted later that night, allowing police to search the vehicle.
“A thorough search yielded two baggies of marijuana, a loaded Ruger LCP .380, cocaine and related drug paraphernalia,” the officer said.
According to the warrant, about 76 grams of marijuana were found in the vehicle.
Thorhauer is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing July 6 before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.
