Fire destroys 2-story garage; cause probed
MIDDLESEX TWP — A two-story garage was destroyed by fire Monday afternoon.
No one was hurt in the fire.
The couple who lives in the house on Stage Coach Lane, a dead-end street off Old Route 8, did not know what caused the blaze.
The garage, which did not have any cars inside, had a large addition in the back. In total, the structure had six rooms, most of which were used for storage, homeowner Walter Smith said.
The house did not sustain significant damage in the fire.
Responding around 2:30 p.m., firefighters said the garage was fully involved when they arrived. The flames were knocked down within 30 minutes and the roof over the rear part of the garage collapsed.
The Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department responded and was assisted by tankers and crews from the Penn Township, Richland Township, Allegheny County, Saxonburg, South Butler and Adams Township departments.
Quality EMS and Middlesex Township Police also assisted at the scene.
A state police fire marshal was asked to respond and investigate.
