Woman suspected in fake raffle
State police said they have a suspect in the investigation of a bogus raffle in Prospect that apparently victimized dozens of people.
Investigators did not identify the suspect, a woman, who allegedly sold at least 40 fake raffle tickets earlier this month. No charges have been filed, police said Tuesday.
Details about the fraudulent raffle were not immediately available. But the victims bought the tickets, for $20 each, hoping to win a side-by-side vehicle or cash, said Trooper Jim Long.
The woman made off with at least $800. Police have identified 20 victims, all but four of whom are women. The victims range in age from 36 to 78, and only two live in Butler County.
Most of the other identified victims live in Pittsburgh or elsewhere in Allegheny County. Investigators, however, suspect there are potentially many more victims.
Police are asking anyone who purchased a ticket and has not contacted authorities to call the Butler barracks at 724-281-8100.
