SR budget has no tax increase
SLIPPERY ROCK — Borough council Tuesday night approved the 2010 budget with no increase in real estate taxes for the seventh year in a row.
Jerry Heller, council member and head of the budget committee, said the total millage of 19.875 includes 16.875 mills for the general budget, 1.5 mills for street lighting and 1.5 mills for fire protection.
"I also would like to point out this is the same millage we had last year." Heller said.
The general fund totals $999,457. That includes adding two part-time employees.
"One is providing for a part-time police officer for half of the year and an additional part-time clerical person for at least one half of the coming year," Heller said. "Those would be the only changes."
Council member Jim Green is pleased with the budget: "It covers no tax increase in seven years. You guys did a good job."
The borough administrator's salary is $41,600 for 2010 while the code enforcement officer's salary is $33,000 for the year.
