The criminal trial for Frederick L. Dengg, 27, which had been set for Tuesday, was canceled after he pleaded guilty Monday to attempted criminal trespassing.

Dengg’s public defenders had spent the weekend preparing for the trial. But in the end their client, who has no known address, chose instead to plead guilty. He was sentenced to three to 12 months incarceration and immediately paroled on time served, after being in Butler County Prison for more than four months since his arrest.

Public Defender Maura Palumbi asked that Dengg be immediately transferred to Ohio, where he faces probation violation charges.

Dengg was charged May 6 with felony burglary, attempted burglary, flight to avoid apprehension, summary defiant trespass and disorderly conduct.

That day, police said, a homeowner at Volkswood Drive, Center Township called to report that Dengg was found hiding under a deck in the 300 block of Volkswood Drive wearing nothing but sweat pants. Dengg told the witness he was running from probation officers.

Dengg, who was described as shirtless and tattooed, fled before police arrived. A few hours later, according to police, officers were called for a report of the same man attempting to get into a home also in the 300 block of Volkswood Drive, where a 16-year-old girl was present.

He ran into the woods before police arrived, and was found a short time later in the woods behind a home in the 100 block of Elise Drive.

Dengg will be held in Butler County’s custody until arrangements with Ohio can be made for a transfer.
