Position changes made in county

Several changes were made to various county positions at Wednesday morning's salary board meeting.

The board approved the creation of a full-time COVID-19 housekeeper at $17 per hour plus benefits.

Lori Altman, the county director of human resources, said an extra worker had been hired to sanitize the county buildings from June to December due to the coronavirus pandemic.

That term is expiring, and Altman requested that the position be made full-time.

“That position has been extremely helpful,” Altman said.

The board also approved what Judge William Shaffer, Court of Common Pleas administrative judge, called “administrative streamlining in adult probation.”

Shaffer received approval to eliminate three clerk/stenographer positions, which were nonunion, and create three union clerk/typist positions.

The board also approved Shaffer's request to eliminate five central booking technician positions and create five clerk/typist II positions.

Altman said the union approached her about why the clerk/stenographer positions were not union jobs.

Shaffer also received board approval for the elimination of the full-time juvenile court hearing officer position and the creation of two part-time positions for that job.

“Full-time is not needed,” Shaffer said.

The board also approved the elimination of the county's two part-time laborer jobs because no candidates would accept a part-time position.

“We've made multiple attempts,” said board member and county commissioner Leslie Osche. “It's getting harder and harder.”

In lieu of the two part-time positions, one full time laborer position was created so the county could fill the job.

Richard Goldinger, district attorney, requested the elimination of the part-time victim witness clerk and the creation of a full-time victim witness aide.

The new position will be funded by grants from the state Rights and Services Act and Victims of Juvenile Offenses.

Goldinger said the county is slated for approval for those two grants.
