DUI suspect also charged with fleeing
A suspected drunken driver is accused of failing to immediately pull over for Butler police Saturday afternoon.
Police said they tried to stop David J. Cummings, 59, of Butler Township about 1:20 p.m. after they saw his car with an expired inspection sticker on Roosevelt Boulevard.
But when Patrolman Kevin Novak activated his cruiser's emergency lights and siren, Cummings refused to stop, according to court documents.
Police said Novak pursued the car for about one mile until the defendant pulled into his home on Old Plank Road. During the pursuit, Cummings allegedly crossed the center line to pass another vehicle.
The suspect smelled of alcohol, documents said, and police found two open containers of beer in his car.
He was subsequently taken to the station for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.132 percent. A level of .0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.
Cummings was arraigned on a felony charge of fleeing or attempting to elude police and misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license-DUI related.
He also was cited for driving a vehicle without valid inspection and disregarding traffic lanes.
He was placed in the Butler County Prison following arraignment. His bail amount was not immediately available.
