Alex Penn, the son of Dave and Denise Penn of Saxonburg, has named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist.A senior at Knoch High School, Penn is active in marching band, pep band, pit orchestra, chemistry club, A-V Club, German Club and the History Club.He is also a member of the track and field team, the academic challenge team and the National Honor Society.
Kristin Lavery of Butler was recently chosen for membership in the Sigma Alpha Lambda national leadership and honors organization at the University of Pittsburgh.

Josiah Everett, the son of the Rev. Peter and Sandi Everett of Harmony, recently competed in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Spelling Bee.A sixth grade student at Portersville Christian School, he qualified for the spelling bee by winning a recent county-wide spelling bee.
