South Butler changes to remote instruction
The South Butler County School District announced that all four district schools will use a remote teaching platform through Nov. 25 due to increases in COVID-19 cases.
A notification Superintendent David Foley issued Sunday to parents also said staff members will contact students with instructions for remote learning. Students must check their emails for further instructions from both school administration and their teachers. Email blasts will be sent to parents’ emails.
Foley said he was told Sunday that a kindergarten student tested positive, several teachers were awaiting testing results and two student cases involved families with children in multiple buildings. The district and the Pennsylvania Department of Health will contact families of students who were close contacts.
Students will connect with their teachers through Google Meets. Secondary students will follow their period-by-period schedule. Elementary teachers will contact parents.
Foley said the district will assess the situation at the end of November to determine if it is safe to return the elementary students to the campus after the Thanksgiving break. He said the closing will hopefully allow those affected to quarantine or recover, so in-person instruction at the elementary level and hybrid instruction in the secondary grades can begin Dec. 1.
