Man charged with having unlicensed gun
A Georgia man is behind bars after Butler police say they found him with a handgun following a Tuesday morning traffic stop.
Leighton U. Ellis-Kerr, 31, of Decatur did not have a license for the gun, according to investigators.
Police were investigating an unrelated case when they spotted a man, later identified as Ellis-Kerr, get into the rear seat of a vehicle, court documents said.
Officers about 2 a.m. stopped the vehicle on the 500 block of Liberty Street At the foot of Ellis-Kerr's seat, police said, officers noticed a pistol “partially wrapped in a T-shirt.”
The gun was identified as a .357-caliber Glock.
District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned Ellis-Kerr on a felony charge of carrying a firearm without a license.
He is being held in Butler County Prison on $100,000 bail.
