EVANS CITY — With two applications in to borough council, Evans City publicly will interview applicants for the vacant seat in a special meeting at 5 p.m. on Monday.

Council accepted letters of interest through Monday, The seat was left vacant when Councilwoman Shelley Natali resigned July 1, more than two years before her term expired.

Lee Dyer, borough council president, has verified the eligibility of the two applicants. During Monday's meeting, the applicants will be interviewed and have the chance to ask questions. At that time, council will vote on which candidate will fill the seat through Dec. 31.

Lane restrictions are scheduled to begin later this week on Interstate 79 near Portersville.According to information from PennDOT, single-lane closures in the southbound lanes are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Friday and last until Sunday morning, weather permitting. The closure will be between exits 96 and 88, with work taking place at mile marker 91.The restrictions are necessary to allow contractor Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. to repair a section of road damaged by a tractor trailer accident.

Parking will be restricted on 10 streets from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday in Butler for street cleaning.The streets are Eola Street, Short Street, Wyoma Avenue, East Boyd Avenue, Brugh Avenue, Coal Street, Roosevelt Boulevard, Holcomb Avenue, Wiltshire Avenue and Tycoma Avenue.
