WINFIELD TWP — A suspected serial rapist who was arrested in Beaver County last month has been charged with raping a 17-year-old Butler County girl in 2014, after plying her with alcohol and marijuana.

Jonathan D. Vance, 31, of White Township, Beaver County, was arrested Aug. 8 by state police and charged in connection with one rape. But since then, investigators have located additional victims and filed more charges. As of this week Vance had been charged with at least six rapes, most of them in Beaver County, and is a suspect in at least nine more, according to state police. He is being held in Beaver County Jail on a combined bail of $925,000.

The latest charge came on Tuesday, when state police in Beaver County filed counts of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault and sexual assault against Vance, as part of a criminal complaint alleging he raped a 17-year-old girl at Bernie’s Mobile Home Park in Winfield Township, Butler County, in December 2014.

In court documents state police say that the victim contacted investigators on Aug. 14 and reported that Vance had sexually assaulted her on Dec. 1, 2014. She told investigators that she was 17 when, along with one of her friends, she visited Vance’s home in the trailer park to drink. She said Vance gave her alcohol and marijuana, and that she had too much to drink, became sick, and later fell asleep on a mattress in another room.

Sometime later that night, she told police, she awoke to find herself partially naked and Vance having sex with her. She told police that she told Vance to get off her, which he did, but she was unable to find a ride home until the next day, when Vance himself drove her.

She told police that she came forward after a friend sent her a picture of Vance’s mugshot that had been published after his arrest in Beaver County last month.

According to court documents a preliminary hearing on the charges is set for Nov. 1 before District Judge Sue Haggerty.
