A Butler man, charged with assaulting a woman while on a date and kicking two state troopers in November, was sentenced to probation Thursday.

Kurt W. Camus, 50, was sentenced to 3 years of county probation by Butler County Judge William Shaffer. He also was ordered to pay court costs and a $300 fine, as well as complete an anger management program.

Camus previously pleaded guilty to three misdemeanor counts of simple assault April 4 after an incident on 10th Street in East Butler on Nov. 9.

Part of the plea also included the completion of a drug and alcohol evaluation, which Camus' attorney, Terrence Ging, said had been done and no follow-up treatment was ordered.

Police said a woman reported that she was on her second date with Camus when he attacked her for no apparent reason, according to court documents, grabbing her by the side of the head and slamming the back of her head against a wall.

Police said when they got to the woman's apartment they found Camus on the second floor, smashing out a window. He reeked of alcohol and was quickly detained. But Camus soon caused another commotion, this time with police, documents said, when he kicked two troopers while they tried to gain control of him on the floor.

During the altercation Camus told the troopers that they “weren't real,” according to a police affidavit.

Police said Camus eventually had to be forcibly removed from the apartment.
