Man accused of DUI with his children in vehicle

CRANBERRY TWP — Police say a man's blood-alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit when he was involved in a two-vehicle crash while his two children were in the back seat.

Tony Ledonne, 40, of Saxonburg was arrested on charges including child endangerment and driving under the influence following the crash shortly before noon Sunday in Cranberry Township.

Ledonne also is accused of failing to immediately stop after his pickup struck the other vehicle's rear bumper about 11:35 a.m. while changing lanes on Route 228 west, police said. He continued north on Dutilh Road with the other driver following him.

The defendant eventually drove off Wisconsin Avenue and into a grassy area, a mile from the crash scene, according to charging documents.

Officers spoke to Ledonne, who they suspected had been drinking. They noted his children, ages 5 and 8, were in the rear passenger seat.

Police subsequently took him to UPMC Passavant in the township for a blood test. Documents show his blood-alcohol level was 0.26 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Ledonne on two counts of child endangerment, DUI, hit-and-run, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.

Ledonne was placed in the Butler County Prison on nonmonetary bond after Stoughton set conditions on his release. The defendant can be released to the county probation office only for pretrial supervision.

He also is required to wear a Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor, an ankle bracelet that immediately alerts law enforcement and probation and parole officers when the person wearing the device consumes alcohol.
