CRANBERRY TWP — A county group is offering an opportunity for residents to learn about electric cars and alternative energy sources.

Marcellus Outreach Butler on Sept. 10 will host its fourth annual Go Green Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Cranberry Commons parking lot near Kohl’s.

The event will include an electric car show and cruise with various models of all-electric vehicles, including Tesla, Chevy Volt, Cadillac ELR, Ford Energi and Nissan Leaf.

Electric cars are becoming a more viable alternative to gas-powered vehicles because of recent advancements in battery storage systems and energy management, according to the event’s website. Advantages of the cars include quieter engines, no exhaust pollutants and savings in fuel costs.

Also featured at the event will be home improvement businesses, green products and services, grassroots groups and activities and crafts for children.

The event will be powered by Zero Fossil, which will bring a portable solar power system.

It is being held during National Drive Electric Week 2016, a campaign from Sept. 10 to 18 intended to increase awareness of the widespread availability of electric and hybrid cars, trucks and motorcycles. It is also sponsored by Beaver County Marcellus Awareness Committee. Admission is free and the event will be rain or shine.
