Car accident cuts power

A car accident knocked out power for about 1,000 Penn Power customers in and around Evans City Saturday afternoon, according the company.

Diane Francis, Penn Power spokesman, said their in-house reports indicated that the outage was caused by a car hitting a utility pole. Power interruptions began sometime between 4 and 4:30 p.m. By about 5:30 p.m., she said, power returned for all but about 50 customers.

Their records showed power outages affected 1,032 customers.

Outages were in Evans City and Jackson and Forward townships, according to the company’s online outage map tool.
