EVANS CITY — Police say a man threw breath mints and coins at a vehicle while driving under the influence.

Newton A. Laemmle, 42, waived DUI charges on Tuesday after an alleged incident in the early hours of Dec. 3.

Police reports state Laemmle, while driving his Dodge Durango, was chased by a Dodge pickup truck driven by Michael G. Kondos Jr. after the two crossed paths on North Washington Street by East Main Street.

After the two pulled in by the borough municipal building, Kondos confronted Laemmle.

Police had to separate the two, according to the report.

Kondos told police Laemmle had thrown small objects at the side of his truck.

Laemmle then told police he threw “whatever change was in his pocket and some mints, because I eat a lot of mints.”

Laemmle failed a sobriety test and had a blood-alcohol reading of 0.169 percent, more than twice the legal limit.

Laemmle was released on his own recognizance.

He faces two misdemeanor charges of DUI and lesser charges of careless driving, driving an unregistered vehicle, operating a vehicle without a valid inspection and operating a vehicle without insurance.

He will be arraigned in county court on March 27.
