Zelie will sell fire truck to Parker
ZELIENOPLE — A fire truck used for 16 years in the borough will be sold to Parker.
Borough council voted Monday evening to sell Engine 22 to the Parker City Volunteer Fire Department for $137,500. The engine has been used since 1999.
The decision to sell the fire truck is part of the plan to consolidate fire department resources into the newly formed Harmony Fire District.
“We thought this was the easiest way,” council Vice President Andrew Mathew said.
Council said since the fire engine is being sold to another municipality, the bidding process is not mandatory.
“Legally, it makes more sense,” borough manager Don Pepe said about selling the truck to Parker.
A fire truck used by the Harmony Volunteer Fire Department also will be sold since that department is merging into the new fire district.
Council voted Monday evening to give the Zelienople Volunteer Fire Department’s equipment to the new fire district.
