Pittsburgh woman accused of stabbing in Butler

A Pittsburgh woman is accused of attacking two women, and stabbing at least one of them, at a residence on West New Castle Street in Butler.

Alyssa Assenat, 19, was charged Saturday, Oct. 3, by Butler police with felony burglary and one misdemeanor count each of simple assault and loitering following an incident that day.

Police said they were dispatched for a report of a stabbing. When they arrived on scene, officers observed a large amount of blood in the rear of the residence and two women in the kitchen area.

One of the women was holding a cloth to her left arm, specifically the inner elbow area. Police also found blood inside the closed-in porch area.

The women told police Assenat had attacked them in the backyard. One of the women alleged Assenat charged at her and attempted to attack the other woman, who was inside the closed-in porch.

The woman said she also confronted three other individuals in the backyard and told them to leave, which led to Assenat screaming and trying to force her way inside, according to police. The woman also said she observed Assenat fighting with the other woman in the doorway of the porch with what she believed to be a knife.

One of the women then grabbed a knife and swung it at Assenat. The knife broke during the altercation. Both women said the fight then continued on the ground and the other woman tried to break up the fight. The women eventually separated and Assenat ran off, police said.

Assenat’s preliminary hearing has not been scheduled.
