Butler Township man killed in motorcycle crash
Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in a motorcycle crash Sunday evening in Parker that killed a 46-year-old Butler Township man, authorities said.
John L. Penrod died around 5:10 p.m. when he lost control of the Harley-Davidson Road Glide, according to state police. He was not wearing a helmet.
Police said Penrod was traveling south on Washington Street when he crossed over the northbound lane and went off the road. The cycle traveled through a yard, hit an embankment and struck a set of steps at a home.
Armstrong County Coroner Brian Myers pronounced Penrod dead at the scene. The cause of the accidental death was listed as multiple blunt force trauma.
There was no autopsy, but standard toxicology tests will be conducted. Results are expected in a few weeks, Myers said.
Police said there were other motorists who witnessed the crash.
The Parker Volunteer Fire Department, the Armstrong County Sheriff's Office and Emlenton Ambulance assisted at the scene.
