New Castle woman lands in prison after DUI arrest
A suspected drugged driver landed in more trouble after she was taken to Butler County Prison, where she was found with drug contraband, authorities said.
Samantha L. Boucher, 33, of New Castle remains behind bars on two sets of charges in the separate incidents Friday. She is being held on $6,000 bond and on a probation violation.
State police said they first came upon Boucher around 2:30 a.m. after they were called for a woman passed out in a car at the Pilot Travel Center on Route 422 in Muddy Creek Township.
The car was running, police said, and troopers found the defendant asleep or unconscious in the driver's seat. They had to knock on the window “numerous times” before she came to, police said.
A trooper conducted field sobriety tests, according to charging documents, which indicated impairment. A consent search turned up suspected drug-packaging items in the car.
Boucher was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood draw, police said. Lab results are pending.
Police subsequently took the suspect to the county prison on a probation detainer. Prison staff searched her and found a metal smoking pipe and a plastic container with residue.
District Judge Sue Haggerty later arraigned Boucher on charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness stemming from the first incident.
Haggerty also arraigned her on two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of disorderly conduct for the other incident.
Online court records did not indicate if Boucher has an attorney.
