Butler man accused of assaulting ex-girlfriend
A Butler man is accused of attacking an ex-girlfriend with steel-toed boots, leaving her with serious injuries, during an alleged assault Friday at her home in Summit Township.
The defendant, Kristoffer M. Ion, 29, later threw a rock at the woman's car when she tried to get away with her young daughter, state police said. The rock shattered the rear windshield, causing cuts to the girl from the broken glass.
Troopers arrested Ion, but not before they said they had to use force to get him into handcuffs.
District Judge Bill O'Donnell arraigned Ion on felony charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and child endangerment, and misdemeanor charges of simple assault, resisting arrest and criminal mischief.
He also is charged with harassment, a summary. He is being held in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bond.
Police said the 32-year-old victim told them that she had returned to her home on Bent Creek Lane around 11:30 p.m. after picking up her child from a friend's house. She walked in and found Ion seated on the couch.
She recounted that the two of them had broken up about three weeks earlier, and he was not welcome at her home, according to charging documents.
An argument ensued, and the defendant punched her in the face multiple times, police said. He also allegedly assaulted her with his boots, injuring her face and head.
Additionally, she said, he bit her on the arm and hands.
The woman recalled that she “blacked out multiple times during the altercation,” documents said. Police described the injuries to her head, face, arms and hands as “significant.”
The victim eventually managed to get out of the house with her 8-year-old daughter. But once in her vehicle, Ion allegedly threw a rock at the back window. Police said the girl suffered injuries to her head, hands and ankle.
Troopers subsequently found Ion at his apartment, but said he refused to surrender peacefully.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 24. Online court records did not indicate if he has an attorney.
The victim obtained a temporary protection from abuse order Monday that prohibits Ion from contact with her and her daughter, records show. The final hearing for the PFA order also is scheduled for Nov. 24.
