Logan food service ends after 85 years

Wholesaler merges with Ebensburg co.

CONNOQUENESSING TWP — After 85 years in business, Logan Inc. is no more.

Owner Al Ward said Thursday the wholesale food distributor and food service business has merged with McAneny Brothers in Ebensburg, Cambria County.

Ward said he was approached by McAneny Brothers earlier this year about the merger.

“They’re a big company looking to get bigger and we’re a small company,” Ward said of the deal.

Logan has 21 employees, some of which have been hired by McAneny Brothers.

Logan started in 1927 as a wholesale distributor of candy, cigarettes, cigars and other tobacco products.

Ward bought Logan Candy from the Logan family in 1984.

The original warehouse on Elm Street in Butler was bought and renovated by the Mental Health Association of Butler County in 1998.

Ward is planning to sell the Logan warehouse at 653 Evans City Road and is now looking forward to retirement.

Bob Hasse, McAneny Brothers’ general manager, said his company operates a 140,000-square-foot warehouse in Ebensburg with about 1,200 customers.

Hasse said McAneny does not provide food service, as Logan did, but will continue to supply convenience and grocery stores.
