Man arrested before Freeport Halloween Parade
A man is accused of speeding through an area near the annual Freeport Halloween Parade before being arrested in a gas station Wednesday, Oct. 28, according to Southern Armstrong Regional police.
Police said an officer was conducting traffic control at Fifth and Market streets before the parade when they spotted a vehicle traveling at high speeds toward a crowd of people.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle at Fifth and High streets, but the driver continued toward Buffalo Street and entered a BP gas station parking lot and went inside.
Police followed the driver into the BP, found him at the register and made commands. Police said the man then made a move to flee and was tased. He declined EMS assistance, police said.
“The Southern Armstrong Regional Police Department increased staffing during community events to help protect the safety of residents and visitors,” Chief Hunter B. Tackett said.
