Motorcyclist severely hurt after hitting truck on Route 8

PENN TWP — A southbound motorcyclist hit the side of a northbound truck that had turned left into a gas station parking lot in front of the motorcycle, according to Middlesex Township Police.

The motorcycle driver was taken from the scene Thursday morning via Butler Ambulance Service and later flown by helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital. He was conscious at the scene, but emergency crews reported possible severe leg injuries.

The truck driver was uninjured. An elderly male passenger in the truck was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Butler Memorial Hospital in an ambulance.

The collision occurred shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday at the Planet Mart on Route 8 in Penn Township.

The Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company also responded.

Police at the scene did not release the names of the people involved.

The accident congested traffic in the area as southbound lanes were obstructed by the wreck and the emergency vehicles brought into handle the situation. The two southbound lanes were alternated along the center turning lane.

The road reopened by noon.
