State police identified three people injured in a head-on collision Saturday night on Route 38 in northern Butler County.

Drivers Jacqueline R. Kriebel, 56, of Lyndora, and James W. Mansberger, 60, of Parker, as well as Mansberger's passenger, Misty A. Parker, 43, of Petrolia, were all flown to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh with unknown injuries.

Police said the crash occurred around 11:15 p.m. when Kriebel crossed the center line in a Hyundai Elantra while traveling south on Route 38 in Washington Township, and collided with Mansberger's northbound Kia Optima.

Both drivers were trapped in their cars and had to be rescued by North Washington and West Sunbury volunteer firefighters. Emergency crews initially believed Parker was able to get out on her own.

All three occupants were conscious and alert after crews arrived. Firefighters set up landing zones for three STAT MedEvac helicopters on a field across from nearby Rolling Ridge Farms.

The wreck closed the road between Bruin and North Washington roads for more than three hours, according to authorities.

Crews said road or weather conditions did not appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
