A Butler woman accused of endangering her then-unborn child and her 8-year-old daughter after overdosing on heroin last year waived to court Monday an unrelated charge of possessing drug paraphernalia.

Butler County detectives said Kasey R. Dischman, 31, had a crack pipe Aug. 6 when she was placed in the Butler County Prison for violating the terms of her pretrial supervision and probation.

A pair of county probation officers were headed to Dischman's home in connection with the alleged probation violations about 11 a.m. when they spotted her driving a motorcycle at East Wayne Street and South Main Street in Butler.

The officers followed her to a Butler Township pizza shop where she works, and arrested her, according to court documents.

She was eventually taken to prison and found with a metal crack pipe that was wrapped in a shirt inside her backpack.

In addition to a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia, she is charged with driving with a suspended license, a summary offense.

She remains in the prison after subsequently admitting at an Aug. 10 court hearing to the probation and pretrial supervision violations.

Among those violations, authorities said, was that she tested positive for and admitted to smoking crack cocaine, and that the GPS tracker on her electronic monitoring device showed that she was at unauthorized locations.

Additionally, she was on probation stemming from a felony shoplifting conviction in 2016.

Judge William Shaffer at last month's hearing revoked Dischman's probation and resentenced her to 3 to 12 months in the county prison.

She also was ordered to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation at the prison.

Dischman last year was arrested and charged with felony aggravated assault of an unborn child following her alleged overdose June 22, 2017, at her then-home in East Butler.

State police accused her of injecting a stamp bag of heroin and overdosing on the floor of her bathroom. She was seven months pregnant at the time.

She was flown to a hospital in Pittsburgh and subsequently placed on a ventilator after suffering cardiac arrest.

Later, she was transferred to another Pittsburgh hospital, where doctors performed an emergency Caesarean section.

The baby, a girl, survived but suffered “lasting injuries,” court documents said.

County prosecutors subsequently added three additional charges — misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of children, corruption of minors and possession of a controlled substance.

Those charges, authorities said, were based on evidence that Dischman's 8-year-old daughter also was at the defendant's home at the time of the overdose, and that a hypodermic needle was found there.

Shaffer in October dismissed the lone felony charge, ruling that state law exempts pregnant women from prosecution for crimes against their unborn children.

The district attorney's office later appealed the ruling to the state Superior Court, which upheld Shaffer's ruling in an Aug. 29 opinion.

Shaffer in December released Dischman into pretrial supervision, which included house arrest with electronic monitoring.

Before her release, she had been in the county jail on $500,000 bail stemming from her arrest on charges in the alleged overdose case.
