Boscov's helping cancer support group, shoppers

Boscov’s is once again supporting the Butler Breast Cancer and Women’s Cancer Support Group during October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Boscov’s in Clearview Mall will be open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Oct. 16, Boscov’s Friends Helping Friends Day, for a full day of shopping and helping the support group.

The support group will be selling $5 shopping passes at its Women’s Health and Wellness Fair Oct. 13 at the mall and Oct. 16.

The passes gives shoppers a 25-percent discount on all merchandise in the store Oct. 16. Refreshments and entertainment will be provided.

Boscov’s and the support group have been partnering in the fundraiser for many years, said DeeDee Bailey, Boscov’s regional public relations manager.

“The support group has been part of it for a very long time. They seem to do very well with it. We’re glad we can help them make some money,” Bailey said.

Each person who buys a pass can fill out a ticket that makes them eligible for a drawing for $100.

When the winning ticket is drawn, the support group also receives $100. The drawing will be held by the end of that week in October, she said.

“The customer gets $100 and the organization gets $100,” Bailey said.

Friends Helping Friends Day is hugely popular, said Cheryl Schaefer, support group coordinator.

“It’s a great way to do your Christmas shopping. I’ve seen people load the car four or five times and have to come back to get the people they came with,” Schaefer said.
