Vaccination doses top 3M in state, 39K in county

The number of COVID-19 vaccine doses provided to people in Pennsylvania has exceeded 3 million, including 39,000 in Butler County.

A total of 3,047,539 doses were administered through Monday, including 2,066,330 first doses and 981,209 second doses, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

In the county, 17,008 people have received one dose and 21,993 have gotten two doses. A person is considered fully covered after receiving two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.

The state is using its allocation of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine to inoculate teachers and school staff.

The health department reported 2,975 new cases of COVID-19, raising the statewide total to 953,136, and 21 new cases in the county, raising the total number of residents who contracted the virus since the pandemic began to 9,062.

As of Monday, 40 new deaths were reported, increasing the total to 24,396. No new county deaths were reported.

There are 1,502 people hospitalized across the state, including 303 people in intensive care. Most of those hospitalized and most who have died are age 65 and older, according to the department.

The average number of people hospitalized per day is about 4,300 lower than it was at the peak of the pandemic on Dec. 25 and lower than it was at the height of the spring peak on May 3.

There are 67,972 state residents with COVID-19 in nursing and personal care homes and 13,511 cases among employees. Out of the 24,396 total deaths in the state, 12,616 have been residents in nursing or personal care facilities.
