The Mental Health Association in Butler is offering a program that provides bill paying and financial organization assistance to mentally and physically handicapped and elderly residents in the county.

The Representative Payee Program assists people who need help with organizing their finances and paying their bills in a timely fashion. The program is available to people who are unable to manage a financial system, yet want to remain independent in the community. Each client's income is primarily from Supplemental Security Income and Social Security Disability. The representative payee is directed to ensure the client's food, shelter, clothing and medication is paid for. Then, they direct the client regarding other bills and budgeting a weekly allowance.

The annual Butler County Memorial Day parade will change course as it proceeds down Main Street a week from Monday.John Cyprian, the county's director of veterans services, said the parade will begin on North Main Street at Penn Street and head south to Diamond Park.Cyprian said the Memorial Day Parade has moved south to north, ending at the North Side Cemetery, for two centuries.The change was made because no program will be held at the cemetery this year due to senior paradegoers having a hard time making their way up North Main Street Hill to attend.The ceremony will take place at Diamond Park this year, which is easier to access.The historical Memorial Day program will begin at the end of the parade, Cyprian said.The parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. on May 27.
