Sign-ups are now open for the three races scheduled to take place in Harmony on Thursday, Dec. 31. The runs range from a half-mile dash to a brand new, indoor toddler run.

The 20th anniversary celebration of Harmony Silvester will kick off with a 5K dash at 3:30 p.m. on Mercer Street, across from the entrance to the Harmony Museum. Silvester is the German word for New Year’s Eve.

Registration fee is $30, which will increase to $35 after Sept. 30. The first 300 people to sign up for the race will receive a 20th anniversary shirt.

A 1-mile run will follow at 4:15 p.m. on Wood Street, across from the Harmony Inn. Registration fee is $20, which will increase to $25 after Dec. 15.

For the first time in the event’s history, a Diaper Dash also will take place at 5:15 p.m. inside the gymnasium of Grace Church Harmony, 538 Main St. The registration fee is $10, and participants will make a short dash across padded mats to the finish line. The event is for children who are crawling, or just starting to walk, according to the Silvester’s event page.

The family event in Harmony will also feature a Christmas tree, a wreath toss and a variety of vendors.

After the races, attendees can gather in the borough square at 6 p.m. — midnight in Germany — to watch a ball drop, while counting down in German. Fireworks and the singing of Auld Lang Syne will wrap up the event.

Funds raised at the festivities will be contributed toward future events and existing infrastructure within the borough.
