SOUTH BUFFALO TWP, Armstrong County — A traffic stop turned up nearly 200 stamp bags of suspected heroin, state police said.

The driver, Michael E. Dunn, 36, of Kittanning, was pulled over for traffic violations around 4:50 p.m. Friday on Route 28 in South Buffalo Township near the Butler County line. Police suspected he was also driving while on drugs.

Troopers subsequently seized 193 glassine bags containing suspected heroin from the vehicle.

District Judge Kevin Lee McCausland arraigned Dunn on Saturday on a felony charge of conspiracy to possess with intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

He also is charged with following too closely to another vehicle and making an improper turn.

Dunn was placed in the Armstrong County Jail on $40,000 bail following arraignment. A preliminary hearing is scheduled May 21 at the office of District Judge Gary DeComo in Ford City.

Police said there were two passengers — a 19-year-old Kittanning woman and a 20-year-old Kittanning man — in Dunn's car. No one else was immediately charged.

Police were unavailable for comment.
