LANCASTER TWP — State police Saturday stopped three residents of Akron, Ohio, who were reportedly speeding down Interstate 79, smelling of marijuana and carrying bags full of stolen goods.

Robert Von Wilson, 22, Zhane Dawn Cummings, 22, and Deontre Larenz Dinkins, 21, are charged with retail theft and possessing instruments of a crime. Wilson, the driver, is also charged with driving at unsafe speeds.

All three are in Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail.

Around 7 p.m. Saturday, state police said, the trio was headed south on I-79 at speeds of 95 mph in a 70 mph zone when a trooper pulled them over.

Upon approaching the vehicle, troopers reported a strong smell of marijuana coming from the car and told the three to exit the vehicle.

After a search, troopers found “a large amount of clothing items with tags” in bags lined with multiple layers of duct tape “for the purpose of concealing and preventing electronic security detection,” documents state.

Troopers also found a security tag removal device, and none of the occupants were able to provide proof of purchase for the merchandise.

Tags on the clothes showed they came from stores at the Grove City Prime Outlets, and managers at those establishments confirmed those items had been stolen, according to court documents.

Security camera footage from the outlet mall confirmed the three had been there that day, police said.

Preliminary hearings for the defendants are set for Tuesday.
