3 women charged after traffic stop
Three women face hearings next month on drug charges stemming from a traffic stop in Butler that turned up suspected heroin, crack cocaine and other contraband.
Cindy L. Anderson, 39, and Nicole A. Summerville, 42, both of Clay Township, were two passengers in a car stopped by police Feb. 3. Each face two counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors.
The driver, Jolene L. Schirra, 33, of Franklin, Venango County, is charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
A Butler patrolman stopped the car around 2 p.m. a short time after Schirra failed to come to a complete stop at West Penn and Broad streets, police said. One of the car's brake lights also wasn't working.
According to police, the arresting officer noticed one of the backseat passengers making suspicious movements before the stop, including dipping her head and shoulders.
Charging documents show police identified the occupants and learned Anderson was wanted on at least two bench warrants. She was arrested and placed in the back of a patrol car to be taken to Butler County Prison.
Schirra allowed police to search her car. She also later turned over a crack pipe that was in her pants, police said.
Stuffed under the back seat, documents said, officers found an unmarked pill bottle than contained three grams of suspected crack and burned pieces of copper scrubber.
Police suspect Summerville tried to hide the bottle by kicking it under the seat. She was searched, police said, and found with three bags of suspected heroin.
She also acknowledged she was hiding a crack pipe and syringe.
Under the front seat where Anderson was sitting police allegedly discovered a sunglasses case containing 20 stamp bags of suspected heroin, four syringes, a metal spoon and other contraband.
A wallet belonging to Anderson, police said, also had a plastic baggie with suspected crack in it.
Preliminary hearings for all three defendants are scheduled for March 30. Online court records did not indicate if any of them have attorneys.
