ADAM TWP — Police arrested a homeless man Sunday after reportedly finding him driving under the influence and in possession of a handgun which he was not licensed to carry.

Daniel Dimond, 47, is charged with DUI, firearms not to be carried without a license and illegal use of a vehicle’s registration.

Officers noticed Dimond’s vehicle, a 2006 Honda Ridgeline, a little after midnight Sunday, trying to navigate the parking lot of Mars Alliance Church, documents state.

They followed his vehicle to the rear parking lot where it stopped and officers made contact with the driver.

Arresting officer Jason Giallorenzo reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol coming from Dimond and asked him what he was doing at the church. Dimond said the pastor let him stay in the parking lot overnight until he was able to find somewhere else to stay, documents state.

Giallorenzo ran the vehicle’s registration and saw it belonged to a different vehicle, a 2003 Dodge Ram.

He returned to Dimond and gave him several field sobriety tests, which Dimond failed, documents state.

When officers took Dimond into custody, he told them he had a gun in the car.

Upon checking the vehicle police found a loaded .40-caliber Glock 22 with 14 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. They also found two additional magazines, each fully loaded, documents state.

Dimond reportedly told officers he did not have a permit to carry the gun and that it was his service weapon from when he worked at the Duluth Police Department in Georgia. Dimond left the department in 2011, he said.

He is in Butler County Prison on $15,000 bail, according to online court documents. A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 18.
