Jerry L. Roth
Jerry L. Roth, 83, of Altoona, Iowa, formerly of Prospect, died Thursday in Iowa after a brief illness.
He was born on Jan. 10, 1938, in Butler, and was the son of Merl and Dorothy Roth.
Jerry was a resident of Prospect for 77 years, until moving to Iowa to be closer to family.
Jerry was a graduate of Slippery Rock Area High School, and had attended Cleveland State University.
He was employed by United Telephone Co., where he received additional education at ITT University in North Carolina and Michigan State University.
Jerry was an engineering consultant, employed by Vidar, Plessey, Telco and Telcom. He enjoyed traveling across the United States, plus assignments in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Bermuda, and especially Nottingham, England.
Jerry was a member of the Prospect Presbyterian Church for 77 years, where he was an elder and clerk of sessions. After moving to Iowa, he became a member of Altoona Christian Church.
While living in Prospect, he had been a member of Prospect Borough Council and the Slippery Rock School Board.
He was a life member of Masonic Lodge 429, the Scottish Rite Consistory, Syria Shrine and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. He also was a member of the PA Pioneers and Roadrunners.
Jerry was an excellent golfer and won many tournaments. He enjoyed playing many premier courses in the United States. He loved to garden and travel, and loved socializing with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Zeigler Roth, whom he married Aug. 29, 1958; one son, Brian (Barbara) Roth of Bondurant, Iowa; one grandson, Brendan D. (Danielle) of Tremonton, Utah; one granddaughter, Megan T. Roth of Bondurant, Iowa; one brother, Thomas D. (Regina) Roth; his sisters-in-law, Jean (Larry) Taggart and Joyce ( Terry) McClymonds; and several nephews and nieces.
ROTH — Private services will be held at a later date for Jerry L. Roth, who died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021.Burial will be held in Crown Hill Cemetery in Prospect.Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jay Bryan Funeral Home in Prospect.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital in Jerry's memory.
