Stadium authority forms COVID-19 committee

A three-person committee has been tasked with making social distancing and other safety plans for when Michelle Krill Field at Historic Pullman Park is permitted to open.
Social distancing, safety plans readied for ballpark

The Butler Parks, Recreation, Grounds and Facilities Authority members don't know when they will be allowed to open Michelle Krill Field at Historic Pullman Park, but want to be prepared for that day.

Board members Monday formed a three-person committee to begin making opening day plans that include social distancing and other coronavirus safety precautions.

The county is moving to the yellow reopening phase Friday, allowing some businesses to open and partially lifting the stay-at-home rules, but the stadium isn't among the facilities allowed to reopen.

“Whenever we reopen we're going to have plans in place. We have no idea what that's going to look like,” said Cheri Readie, authority chairwoman.

Fan seating, team accommodations, concessions and ticket sales are among the details the committee will look into, she said.

The committee members are William Painter, Diane Downs and Emmalee Herndon.

Before the meeting, solicitor Tom Breth said the state's reopening plan limits indoor and outdoor gatherings to 25 or fewer people in the yellow phase.

Baseball teams have 24 players, he said.

“It's an outdoor facility. The prohibition on gatherings of over 25 is their problem. They're not capable of having under 25,” Breth said.

He said fans could be seated in groups of 25 to comply with social distancing rules.
