Ernhardt receives Steel MagnoliaMIDDLETOWN, Ohio — Linda Ernhardt of Renfrew was selected as the area’s seventh annual Steel Magnolia Award honoree.The award honors Ernhardt for overcoming obstacles and positively impacting the community.Ernhardt and her husband, Barry, have fostered 59 infants with special needs in the past 20 years.“Her strength of character and positive attitude have carried her through good times and bad,” wrote her nominator, Cindy Harbison of Butler.The program is administered by the Middletown Community Foundation and funded by the AK Steel Foundation.Recipients of The Steel Magnolia Award live in each of the 13 communities where AK Steel operates a facility. They do not have to be associated with AK Steel.

Realtors donate for dog parkThe Butler County Association of Realtors presented a $2,200 check to Butler County Parks and Recreation Director Gary Pinkerton and Butler County commissioners Kevin Boozel, Leslie Osche and Kim Geyer.The money will help develop Jade’s Dog Park at Alameda Park.Plavchak Construction of Jefferson Hills is the contractor for the $152,000 project. The first phase of the park will include a life-size bronze dog statue, ADA-compliant parking, a plaza, benches and fenced-in areas for dogs.It was intended to be done this spring, but Pinkerton said delays have led to it likely being finished in the fall.The $2,200 comes from a Placemaking micro-grant from the National Association of Realtors to help make Butler a better place to live and work.

Freemasons honor 50-year membersThe members of Harmony Lodge No. 429, Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania, honored four long time members.Receiving gold 50-year pins were Carl Bowman of Sarver, Robert Grine of Lancaster Township, William Kennedy of Zelienople and John Nikita of Zelienople.There are nearly 1,800 Freemasons in Butler County.
