Seneca Valley School District released an email to parents last week stating that “non-hazardous” mold was found in one of its buildings.

The release stated “visual inspections” took place at every building during the students’ first week back at school. Air quality tests received Friday indicated “a slight elevation of mold moisture due to high-humidity conditions.”

The release said the district would address the issue through “concentrated efforts to wipe and clean building surface areas,” and the long weekend was used to place dehumidifiers “in various places within the buildings.”

More air tests were ordered for this week, and the results are expected in coming days.

“Our decision to test was based on a combination of wanting to be cautious given what was occurring at schools across the region, as well as receiving input from staff on areas they felt needed to be tested,” said Linda Andreassi, Seneca Valley’s communications director, in an email Tuesday. “We plan to test again over the next two days. Those results are expected later this week and will help us develop our next steps.”
