Route 422 was closed in both directions for about 30 minutes Tuesday following a wreck at 5:11 p.m. involving a car and a tractor-trailer in Summit Township. The woman driving the car was taken to a hospital by helicopter.

SUMMIT TWP — A car collided with a tractor-trailer at 5:11 p.m. Tuesday, sending one woman to the hospital by helicopter.

State police said the woman, who was not identified, was driving east on Route 422 when witnesses said her car started swerving between the eastbound and westbound lanes.

Upon entering the westbound lane, her car collided with a tractor trailer near Carbon Center Road.

The woman was wearing a seat belt, but was trapped in her vehicle as rescuers arrived, according to police.

Lick Hill Volunteer Fire Department and Herman Volunteer Fire Co. responded to the crash with Lick Hill taking the lead, according to Herman Lt. Darren Osche.

Osche said Herman provided mutual aid, specifically in the landing of the helicopter.

“When we got on scene, (Lick Hill firefighters) had the vehicle cut, and we just assisted in getting her out of the vehicle,” Osche said.

Osche said the woman was conscious as she was taken from the vehicle. Route 422 was closed in both directions for about 30 minutes because of the accident. The truck driver reportedly was not injured.
