Missing Shaler man found dead
A missing Shaler man was found dead in Armstrong County Sunday.
Frederick H. Check, 71, was found in the woods in Maddison Township, Armstrong County, by people riding off-road vehicles in the area, according to an Armstrong County Coroner's report. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Brian K. Myers.
Check had been reported missing to Shaler police and was last seen Aug. 18, according to the report.
Shaler police Lt. Sean Frank said Check was last seen in his car, making the search difficult. He said Check's vehicle was not found until his body was found.
Frank said Check had been living with family in Shaler, but also had family in the Freeport area.
An autopsy was performed. The results of toxicology testing could take several weeks, but there is no suspicion of foul play, according to the coroner's report.
The report said Check was suffering from depression, and an investigation is ongoing by the State Police in Kittanning and the coroner's office.
The Redmond Funeral Home in Freeport will be handling the funeral arrangements.
