Rev. Jeff Harris of Butler was admitted to the Doctor of Ministry program at Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio. He received a Master of Divinity in 2005 from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and began his doctoral program in February.Harris is the pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Butler.———

Katie Reuschel of Renfrew were three of 54 students who participated in a scholarship competition Jan. 25 at Thiel College.Outstanding high school senior applicants were invited to Thiel to compete for a full-tuition Presidential Scholarship or several Dean's Scholarships. They all received Dean's Scholarships.Hertzog is a student at Butler High School and is the son of Mike John and Leigh Ann Hertzog.King also is a student at Butler High School and is the son of Paul and Theresa King.Reuschel is a student at Knoch High School and is the daughter of Rick and Barb Reuschel.———

Kenneth Berkopec received an Army ROTC four-year college scholarship at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.Acceptance of the scholarship signifies the cadet's desire to be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army after graduating from the university and completing the ROTC program.ROTC scholarship graduates incur an eight-year military service obligation in the Army, which can be served either on active duty and/or in the reserve components.Berkopec is the son of James and Amy Berkopec of Mars and a 2008 graduate of Mars High School.———Edinboro University announced that

Karisa Fernandez of Zelienople is a recipient of the Board of Governors Scholarship for the 2009-10 academic year.The scholarship is offered annually to students who have exhibited academic excellence and who plan to be enrolled full time during each semester of the award.Karisa is the daughter of Kristen and Luis Fernandez. She is a graduate of Seneca Valley High School.———

Craig Williams, a Saint Vincent College senior communication major from Butler, is completing an internship at the Westmoreland County Bureau of WTAE-TV, the ABC network affiliate in Pittsburgh, under the supervision of bureau chief Jennifer Miele and videographer Ralph Bell.The son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Williams of Butler, Williams is a 2005 graduate of Butler High School. At Saint Vincent, he is a member of Lambda Pi Eta communication honor society and was named to the dean's list. He has also worked as a student assistant in the college's multimedia department where his work has been recognized.———

Lena Skeele, 11, of Slippery Rock was named a semi-finalist in the Kean Idol contest held Feb. 22 at the Kean Theatre in Gibsonia.
