The Young Preservationists Association of Pittsburgh March 28 awarded $500 to four student-produced videos about saving historic sites in southwestern Pennsylvania.

First place went to

Drew Levinson of Zelienople, a student at Pittsburgh Filmmakers. He was awarded $250. Second place went to 16 middle school students at Riverside Middle School in Ellwood City, third place went to Brandon Roudebush, a sophomore at Indiana (Pa.) University; fourth place went to Caci Lignelli, a student at Ringgold High School in Monongahela.Each of the videos is a call to action to save threatened historic sites in Pittsburgh, Zelienople, Indiana and Monongahela. The short videos were uploaded to YouTube. Pennsylvania State Sen. Jim Ferlo sponsored the financial awards for the students and will present the awards.The winning students and the videos they produced were featured at YPA's preservation awards reception March 28 at the Carnegie Museum of Art.The winning videos are available on YPA's Web site, www.youngpreservationists.org/preservation-video-awards-announced.On Saturday, student members of

NexTier's Junior Bank Board hosted an Easter egg hunt for member children and families of the Autism Society of Butler County, a local chapter of the Autism Society of America.The board enables students to learn about banking, running a business, career planning and many other topics.Members for the 2008-09 school year are

Rachel Burkot of Cranberry Township and

Levi Sanchez of Grove City will be honored at the final Bleasby Colloquium of the academic year Thursday in the Witherspoon Maple Room of the McKelvey Campus Center.Eight of the 16 students are scheduled to read from the critical or creative sections of their capstone projects, which is the final component of the Liberal Studies curriculum at Westminster. The capstone is a course within the major designed to provide an opportunity for students to evaluate and assess the strengths and limitations of their major field.

Local junior and senior high schools competed in the regional History Day competition March 31 at Westminster College.This year's theme, "The Individual in History: Actions and Legacies," was portrayed by students in one of nine categories: individual or group exhibits, individual or group performance, individual or group documentary, group or individual Web site, or individual paper.Those placing first or second in any category advance to the state contest May 6 and 7 at Millersville University. State winners advance to the national contest June 14 to 18 at the University of Maryland.
