Lena Skeele

Lena Skeele of Slippery Rock won first place in the annual Shakespeare contest at the Pittsburgh Public Theatre.She portrayed Joan of Arc from "Henry IV," Part I, in the outstanding monologue, lower division category. More than 1,200 students competed in the contest.A student at Slippery Rock Middle School, she is the daughter of Nora Ambrosio and Dr. David Skeele.———

Caitlin Powell of Cranberry Township was awarded a Goldwater Scholarship.She is studying biomedical engineering at Case Western Reserve University.The scholarships are named for former U.S. Sen. Barry Goldwater and recognize potential and commitment to excellence in science, engineering and mathematics.She plans to earn medical and doctorate degrees in biomedical engineering and to research and develop new drug delivery and tissue engineering therapies to treat cancer. A graduate of North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, Powell is the daughter of Daniel and Mary Powell.———

Joann Ow of Mars accepted admission to Edinboro University, where she will study elementary and special education in the fall. A student at Mars High School, she is the daughter of Joseph and Marie Ow.———

Steven Mogielski of Harmony accepted admission to Edinboro University, where he will study communications in the fall. A student at Seneca Valley High School, he is the son of Robert and Ruth Mogielski.———

Patrick Gillen of Emlenton performed May 2 in the university choir and men's ensemble in the Lock Haven University spring choir concert. Gillen is a freshman majoring in health sciences.
