Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community in Cranberry Township awarded $1,000 scholarships to 46 employees.Residents of Sherwood Oaks award scholarship money to employees showing dedication to the pursuit of degrees in diverse disciplines at college, vocational school or an accredited training program.Employee scholarship recipients are:

Rachel Doutt of Butler, a student at Robert Morris University, was accepted as a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.———

Katlyn Lewicke was named as a First Group Scholar at Smith College. First Group Scholars generally represent the top 10 percent of the class.Lewicke is majoring in history with a concentration in 15th and 16th century England. Lewicke was also named to the spring dean's list.A 2007 graduate of Laurel Junior-Senior High School, she is the granddaughter of Carol Lewicke of Portersville.———

Gretchen Ludwig of Evans City was awarded the Rebecca A. Stoudt Memorial Scholarship at Indiana (Pa.) University. The scholarship is for an undergraduate in the Department of Mathematics with an outstanding academic record.A 2007 graduate of Seneca Valley High School, she is the daughter of William and Barbara Ludwig.———

Kyle Hawk of Slippery Rock was selected for a Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Board of Governors Scholarship at Indiana (Pa.) University.A 2010 graduate of Slippery Rock High School, he is the son of Stephen Hawk and the late Mechelle Hawk.———

Melissa Pindroh of Cranberry Township accepted admission to Edinboro University, where she plans to study elementary education.———

Brendan Stewart was awarded the Outstanding Instrumental Musician Medal for the 2009-10 school year at Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal, Va.He is the son of Bob and Sandy Stewart of Cranberry Township.
